Days Out Charters operates a 9m Custom Makaira, a vessel widely regarded as the pinnacle of New Zealand-built fishing platforms. Combining rugged durability with high-end technology, this boat was specifically engineered for chasing pelagics and conquering the toughest conditions.

Power & Performance

Built with a wide 2.9m beam for maximum stability, our Makaira is powered by twin 350HP Honda Marine Outboards. This setup provides the speed to reach the fishing grounds quickly and the reliability needed for long-range expeditions. Whether we are navigating the swells of the West Coast or the remote currents of the Three Kings, this boat is in its element.

We’ve spared no expense on the tech required to find and stay on the fish:

Garmin Electronics: A massive 28-inch Garmin system dominates the main helm, paired with a 9-inch Garmin display at the cockpit station for real-time data while you’re at the rod.
Twin Helms: Dual controls inside the cabin and outside in the cockpit allow Captain Darren to maneuver the boat with precision during a heated battle.
Kraken Trolling Motor: Equipped with the latest Garmin Kraken, we can “anchor” electronically over deep-water pinnacles or sneak up on wary schools with surgical accuracy.

Comfort & Capacity

Fishing hard doesn’t mean you have to rough it. Our custom layout ensures you stay fresh and comfortable throughout the trip:

Spacious Cabin: Featuring massive indoor seating to get you out of the elements.
Full Facilities: Equipped with an on-board toilet and shower.
Guest Limits: To ensure a premium, uncrowded experience, we host a maximum of 4 guests for offshore trips and 6 guests for inshore charters.

Safety is our non-negotiable priority. Our vessel is fully surveyed to 40nm offshore and is cleared for operations across some of New Zealand’s most formidable waters—from the Grey River on the West Coast to Lottin Point at the East Cape, including the legendary Three Kings.
